Council of Europe Film Policy Forum
Shaping Policies for the Cinema of Tomorrow

The Council of Europe Forum “Shaping Policies for the Cinema of Tomorrow” will be held from 11th - 13th September 2008 in Kraków, Poland. The event is convened by the Council of Europe and hosted by the Polish Film Institute in association with the Polish Ministry of Culture and the City of Krakow. The European Think Tank for Film and Film Policy is responsible for the programme and the background research for the Forum.

The Council of Europe initiative is intended to review film policies from the perspective of their impact on the diversity of cultural identities and expressions. The debate will deal with the effectiveness and efficiency of public support in the context of globalization and digital technologies which redefine film production, distribution and patterns of consumption. The Forum will be a platform to inquire whether film policies are suitably attuned to fulfil the goals of the UNESCO Diversity Convention and maintain a balance between dealing with a film as a product of culture and an instrument of addressing human problems; and not simply as a commercial commodity.
Participants in panel and group discussions will include prominent film professionals, politicians and representatives of organizations and institutions.

Details of the Forum programme will be available on the website at:
